PERAYAAN/FESTIVAL

Background:

In Malaysia we have a number of festivals and celebrations to be carried out every year.   Some of these festivals are celebrated as public holidays, either nationwide or specific to a few states. Most of these festivals/celebration are either religious or cultural festivals.  The festivals mentioned are influenced by the diversity of the people of Malaysia.  Malaysia is a unique country with muti-racial and religion.  The staff and students of SK.Green Road are of different races and religion and they do celebrate the festivals mention above.

The festivals are such as:

HARI RAYA PAUSA

Staff and students who are muslims will celebrate the festival of Adilfitri which is popular known as Hari Raya Puasa. It is celebrated after the holy month of Ramadhan when muslims observe daily fasting during the day and perform the Terawih prayers at night.  Aidilfitri is celebrated modestly and with gratitude. They meet family members, relatives and friends to ask for forgiveness and to strengthen their family and personal ties. They have 'Open House' and welcome their relatives and friends. Their houses were decorated beautifully and they light up lanterns or oil lamps infront of their homes.

HARI RAYA AIDILADHA

Apart from Adilfitri, the festival most grandly celebrated by Muslims all over the world is Aidiladha.  In Malaysia, it is more commonly know as Hari Raya Korban or Hari Raya Haji. We have public holiday on this day. Besides this, prominent festivals celebrate by muslims include Awal Muharram and Maulud Nabi.

It is celebrated in the month of October. On the day of the festival, Hindus will massage oil onto their bodies as an of purification before taking a bath. Later they will perform prayers at the temple. After prayers, they will visit the homes of close relatives and friends. In most homes, guests will be greeted with 'rangoli' or artwork using coloured rice place on the floor infront of the house. Besides Deepavali festival, the indian community celebrates Thaipusam and many other smaller religious events each year.
